History of the Johannishus Estate
During the years 1670-1680 the Admiral-General Hans Wachtmeister urged with great emphasis that new harbouring facilities with favourable ice conditions during winter-time should be created for the Royal Swedish Navy. Focus came very early on the Blekinge archipelago and here, on Wachtmeister's advice, a new naval base eventually was established, around which the town Karlskrona was to grow up. In order to secure the reconstruction of the fleet, which at the time was in a bad shape, a shipyard also was founded - a yard who's descendant Karlskronavarvet AB still exists today.

The Admiral-General had the opportunity in 1684 to buy a couple of manor farms in the middle of Blekinge, namely Skunckenberg (present Johannishus - the name change occured in the middle of the 18th century), Edestad, Wambåsa and Tromtö. For his account was also set aside a building plot in Karlskrona, where the Admiral-General built his residence - the so called Grevagården which today is the home of the Blekinge County Museum. In 1712 the Admiral-General founded the Johannishus Trust in order to secure the order of succession of his estate within the family. According to a law from 1964, establishing the abolition of this special form of trusteeship, the Johannishus Trust has been dissolved and a new company - Johannishus Fideikommiss AB - has been formed instead and who is now the owner of the estate.

Through aquisitions and exchanges through the years the estate has finally reached its present extent, where all land is situated in the Ronneby Municipality. The estate is concentrated around Listersjön and the valley of the Listerby river and adjoining the Johannishus and Tving ridges. From the southernmost point in the archipelago to the most northern point the extent of the estate is 32 kilometers. Three main manor farms exist: Johannishus, Wambåsa and Edestad and a plot for industrial purposes.
